Measurements of strength and flexibility demonstrate that not all sealants are created equal. DuraSeal® and DuraSeal® Xact are the first and only dural sealants approved for use in cranial and spinal surgery, respectively. Benchtop tests demonstrated that DuraSeal® and DuraSeal® Xact provide appropriate strength and flexibility to secure a seal that resists pressure.
DuraSeal®
The sealant system is indicated for use in brain surgery as an adjunct to standard methods of dura mater closure (suturing). The DuraSeal® system is based on a unique hydrogel technology and allows for minimal time to provide sealing of the dura mater both intraoperatively and for the entire critical healing period.
The resorption period of DuraSeal® is 4-8 weeks and when applied, its volume increases by 50% in all directions.
DuraSeal® Xact
A sealing and anti-spay system is indicated for use in spinal surgeries as an adjunct to standard dura mater healing (suturing) techniques. The DuraSeal® Xact system is a proven method of reliably sealing the dura mater of the spinal cord, as well as an effective anti-inflammatory agent to reduce post-operative peridural fibrosis.
The resorption period of DuraSeal® Xact is 9-12 weeks, and when applied, its volume increases by 12% in all directions.
